Geography for Business

Description
The concentration in geography for business enables students to be as broad or specific in their geographic education as they wish.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 19 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Part 1 – 6 hours

GCU 241 The Global Economy in Transition, SB (3)

GIS 211 OR GPH 373 Geographic Information Science I (4) (Required) (Prerequisites: GPH 370 with a grade of C or greater)

Part 2 – 6 hours
Select courses from the following:

GCU 361 Urban Geography, SB (3)

GCU 441 Economic Geography, SB (3)

GCU 442 Geographical Analysis of Transportation, SB (3)

Part 3 – 3 hours
Select course from the following:

GCU 323 Geography of Latin America, SB (3) (Prerequisite: Minimum 45 hours)

GCU 325 Geography of Europe, SB (3)

GCU 432 Geography of China, SB (3)

GCU 433 Geography of Southeast Asia (3)

Part 4 – 3 hours
Select course from the following:

GCU 351 Population Geography, SB (3) (Prerequisites: MAT 117,119, 142, 170 or 210 with C or better; Credit for GCU 351 or SBS 351)

GCU 364 Energy in the Global Arena, SB (3)

GIS 311 OR GPH 473 Geographic Information Science II (4) (Prerequisites: GPH 373 with C or better)

 

 

All Interdisciplinary Studies students are required to complete a 12 credit hour core.

BIS 301, BIS 302 and BIS 402 courses require:

  • A meeting with your academic advisor to:
    Ensure both of your concentration areas have been declared
    Are working towards completing (or have completed) 1-2 courses in each declared concentration

  • One course meeting general studies MA requirement
  • ENG 102 or ENG 105 or ENG 108 or First Year Composition Completed
  • Minimum 2.00 GPA

BIS 302 Interdisciplinary Inquiry (3)
     Prerequisite(s): BIS 301 with C or better

BIS 401 Applied Interdisciplinary Studies (3) (requires application)
     Prerequisites: BIS 301 with C or better; BIS 302 with C or better; Minimum of two courses completed in each concentration area

BIS 402 Senior Seminar, L (3)
     Prerequisite(s): BIS 301 with C or better; BIS 302 with C or better
