Description
The concentration in environmental geography enables students to be as broad or specific in their geographic education as they wish.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 19 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Part 1 – 4 Hours

GPH 111 Introduction to Physical Geography, SQ (3) (Required)
GPH 112 Introduction to Physical Geography Lab, SQ (4) (Required) (Pre- or corequisite(s): GPH 111)

Part 2 – 3 to 4 Hours

GPH 210 Society and Environment, G (3)

GPH 211 Landform Processes, SQ (4)

GPH 212/214 Introduction to Meteorology & Lab, SQ (4) (Both GPH 212 and 214 must be taken to secure SQ General Studies credit)

GPH 213/215 Introduction to Climatology & Lab, SG (4) (Both GPH 213 and GPH 215 must be taken to secure SG General Studies credit)

Part 3 – 6 Hours (two courses)

GPH 314 Global Change, HU, G (3) (Prerequisites: 45 credit hours with C or better)

GCU 350 The Geography of World Crises, SB & G (3)

GCU 364 Energy in the Global Arena, SB & G, (3)

GPH 381 Geography of Natural Resources, G (3)

 

Part 4 – 6 Hours (two courses)

GPH 405 Energy and Environment (3) (Prerequisites: Students who have credit for GPH 505 may not enroll in GPH 405; Must have completed 75 credit hours)

GPH 418 Landforms of the Western United States, L (3)

GPH 422 Plant Geography (3)

GPH 433 Alpine and Arctic Environments, G (3)

GIS 461 Optimization Fundamentals for Spatial Analysis (3) (Prerequisites: MAT 270 (or 271 or 272) and MAT 242 (or 342) with C or better; Credit is allowed for only GIS 461, 561, PUP 481, 581, GCU 494 (Optimization Fundamentals) or 598 (Optimization Fundamentals))
