Description
See your current field of study through a new lens. By becoming a skilled producer, user and manipulator of data, you can make informed decisions about the world around you.
A concentration in data science provides students with skills in statistics, probability and coding in the context of large data sets. Students in this minor become useful consumers and producers of data. They understand and manipulate data sets to make conclusions and recommendations that can have an impact in real world settings.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 25 credit hours and at least 6 upper division hours taken with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- A grade of C (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) or higher is required for all courses used toward the concentration.
- Incompatible concentrations: Mathematical Concepts of Engineering, Computational Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics
- Additional prerequisites to required courses - MAT 267 or MAT 272 > STP 421 OR ACT 415 (ACT 201 with "B" or better required)

DAT 301 Exploring Data in R and Python (4)
(Prerequisite(s): MAT 266 or 271 with C or better; MAT 343 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only DAT 301 or STP (Exploring Data in R and Python))
DAT 401 Statistical Modeling and Inference for Data Science (3)
(Prerequisite(s): DAT 301 with C or better; Credit is allowed for DAT 401 or STP 494 (Statistical Modeling and Inference for Data Sci))
DAT 402 Statistical Learning (3)

MAT 265 Calculus for Engineers I (MA) OR MAT 270: Calculus with Analytic Geometry I (MA) (3-4)

MAT 343 Applied Linear Algebra (3)
(Prerequisite(s): MAT 266 or 271 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only MAT 342 or MAT 343)
Incompatible Concentrations: All concentrations in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences including the concentrations listed above.
IDS Core Course Information
All Interdisciplinary Studies students are required to complete a 9 credit-hour core and 9 credit hours of context/application courses.

- IDS 201 Intellectual Fusion (recommended for freshman/sophomore students)
