Requirements
Description
Students pursuing a concentration in Japanese gain an understanding of the language, literature and cultures of Japan. There are opportunities to partake in study abroad programs, which can serve to enhance a student's experience and education.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours which includes 12 upper division hours for this concentration.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
- Students must complete a minimum of 6 JPN/SLC upper division (300-400 level) hours offered by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
- Course substitutions are allowed for heritage and advanced speakers of the language. Consult an advisor in the School of International Letters and Cultures.
Required Core - 9 credit hours
JPN 301 Third-Year Japanese I, G (3) (Prerequisite: JPN 202 with C or better)
JPN 302 Third-Year Japanese II, G (3) (Prerequisite: JPN 301 with C or better)
JPN 333 Japanese Civilization from the Ice Age to Last Thursday (3)
Electives - 9 credit hours (at least 3 credits must be upper division)
Notes: Students may use a maximum of 6 credits from the 200-level. Additionally, a maximum of 3 credit hours in SLC 421 can be applied.

JPN 485 Literary Translation: Theory and Practice (3) (Prerequisite(s): JPN 401 with C or better; SLC 421 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only JPN 485 or JPN 585)
