Description

Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the interactions between individuals, firms and governments? You can gain insight into the decisions of households and private and public entities, through this minor that complements almost any major and career.


Economics is a social science that examines how societies, businesses and individuals deal with scarcity, and this concentration in economics offers instruction by world-renowned researchers and award-winning professors. Students build a foundation of micro- and macroeconomics that supports their investigation of the forces shaping national and global economies.

Students create a personalized program of study that covers economic theory and applications. Students complete introductory courses (ECN 211 and ECN 212) and choose electives from a large set of upper-division offerings to suit individual interests and goals.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • A minimum 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • M - Course transfer equivalent available from Maricopa County Community College District, details are provided on the Transfer Information tab.
  • Math prerequisites required for upper division Economics (ECN) courses:
    • MAT 211 Mathematics for Business Analysis (3)(Prerequisites: MAT 210, MAT 251, MAT 265 or MAT 270 with a “C” or better) 
      OR MAT 271 Calculus with Analytic Geometry II, MA (4)(Prerequisites: MAT 265 or MAT 270 with a “C” or better)

Core - 6 credit hours

ECN 211 Macroeconomic Principles, SB (3) OR ECN 213 Honors Macroeconomics, SB (3)

ECN 212 Microeconomic Principles, SB (3) OR ECN 214 Honors Microeconomics, SB (3)

Upper Division Electives - 12 credit hours 

Any ECN 300 or 400 level course (not ECN 492)

Note: Maximum 3 credit hours from ECN 484. ECN 312, 313 are prerequisites for many upper division ECN courses.
