Personal Health
Requirements
Description
The personal health concentration will allow students with academic interests that lie outside the realm of medical and health sciences to explore and learn the latest information related to healthy lifestyles, including the attainment and retention of a high quality of personal health. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize their personal health and assume increased responsibility for their own personal health and well-being. The concentration reflects the interdisciplinary nature of personal health by including courses from the nutrition, exercise and wellness, and health sciences disciplines.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
- Students must complete a minimum of 12 upper division (300-400 level) hours.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.

EXW 325 Fitness for Life (3) (Prerequisites: ENG 101; Minimum 30 hours)
HSC 210 Cultural Aspects of Health, C (3)
HSC 300 Complementary Healthcare (3) (Prerequisites: HSC 210, HCR 230, or BIO 202)
NTR 100 Introductory Nutrition (3) (Credit is allowed for only NTR 100 or 241)
Elective courses 6 hours required:
EXW 400 Stress Management for Wellness (3) (Prerequisites: BIO 202; PSY 101; 45 minimum hours)
HSC 355 Eating for Lifelong Health (3) (Prerequisite(s): NTR 100 or NTR 241)
HSC 410 Supporting the Health of Older Adults (3) (Prerequisite: HSC 210; Credit is allowed for only HSC 410 or HSC 394, Supt Health Older Adult)
HSC 412 Health Issues in Later Life (3) (Prerequisite: HSC 210; Credit is allowed for only HSC 394 (Health Issues in Later Life) or 412)
HSC 435 Environmental Health Issues in the U.S. (3) (Prerequisite(s): HSC 210. Credit is allowed for only HSC 394 (Envnmtal Hlth Iss in U.S.) or HSC 435)
