Description

Develop your cultural knowledge and communication skills through this concentration program geared toward the professions. This program is only offered on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.

The combination of professionally focused courses and practical experience in this Spanish for the professions concentration enhances students' professional preparation for employment in positions that require advanced proficiency in Spanish and an in-depth understanding of U.S. Latino culture.

Requirements

  • Program Prerequisite: SPA 314/316 or permission of instructor.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credits 
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher. 

Required Courses -- 6 credit hours
SPA 404: Spanish in U. S. Professional Communities ((L or HU) & C) (3)
SPA 405: Latino Cultural Perspectives for the Professions ((L or HU) & C & G) (3)


Electives (choose one Focus Area below) -- 12 credit hours
Upper Division Focus Area (12)
Students will select twelve upper-division credit hours from one of the three Focus Areas: Spanish
for the Professions, Professional Spanish and Latinx Cultures for Social Care and Public Work, or
Professional Spanish and Latinx Cultures for Heritage Speakers.

Required:
SPA 317: Spanish for the Professions (G) (3)
SPA 402: Written Communication for the Professions (C) or SPA 484: Internship (3)
Notes: Before enrolling in SPA 484, students should complete a minimum of 12 credit hours in the certificate program and seek instructor approval by emailing CISA@asu.edu.
