’23 BA Organizational Leadership

Sam Delgado, who majored in organizational leadership in CISA's School of Applied Professional Studies, participated in Emerging Professionals as a junior. Delgado's mentor was Matthew Feller, CISA project manager.

Question: Which career-connected learning aspects of the Emerging Professionals program were most meaningful to you?
Answer: My mentor put a lot of emphasis on working for an organization whose values aligned with my personal values and my overall goals. This was very meaningful to me as it pushed me to map out where I saw myself in 10 years and find intrinsic motivation for choosing a career path.

Q: Describe any benefits to the program that surprised you— that you may not have expected when you first signed up.
A: Crafting elevator pitches — selling yourself and creating a brand for yourself was something I did not consider before this program.

Q: Did you pursue an internship in a particular field or organization?
A: I pursued an internship with ASU Enterprise Partners as a human resources Intern. I always wanted to work for a non-profit organization, and I was fortunate to see that there was a non-profit organization affiliated with the university.

Q: Did your internship influence your career direction?
A: After my internship in the summer of 2023, I was extended an offer of a student HR coordinator role in the fall and then a full-time job offer as a talent acquisition coordinator at ASU Enterprise Partners after graduating in fall 2023.

Q: What do you hope to do after earning your undergraduate degree?
A: I do want to stay in the non-profit higher education space in HR, as I believe in the mission of these organizations.
