Requirements


Description
Students pursuing a concentration in Japanese gain an understanding of the language, literature and cultures of Japan. There are opportunities to partake in study abroad programs, which can serve to enhance a student's experience and education.

Requirements 

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours which includes 12 upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 6 JPN/SLC upper division (300-400 level) hours offered by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
  • A maximum of 6 hours are allowed from 200 level courses.
  • * A maximum of 3 hours of SLC 421 credit can be applied to this concentration.
  • Course substitutions are allowed for heritage and advanced speakers of the language. Consult an advisor in the School of International Letters and Cultures.
  • 6 hours of additional upper-division JPN courses should be selected in consultation with a School of International Letters and Cultures advisor.

JPN 301 Third-Year Japanese I, G (3) (Prerequisite: JPN 202 with C or better)

JPN 302 Third-Year Japanese II, G (3) (Prerequisite: JPN 301 with C or better)

Electives 12 Hours Required
Notes: JPN 201 (5 credit hours) and JPN 202 (5 credit hours) or JPN 210 (8 credit hours) are prerequisites to JPN 300-level language courses. Students may use a maximum of 6 credits from the 200-level. Select upper division hours in consultation with an advisor.

JPN 206 Japanese Calligraphy (1) (Prerequisites: JPN 101 with C or better)

JPN 210 Intensive Japanese II (6-8) (Prerequisite(s): JPN 102 with B or better or JPN 110 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only JPN 201 or JPN 202 or JPN 210)
