Sparks illuminating a dark environment.

CISA Sparks

Igniting curiosity and career exploration

CISA Sparks, created by ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA), is expertly designed to provide educators and parents with short lessons they can use in their classrooms or at home to spark conversations about different professions. Each lesson introduces a career path with a video, accompanied by a presentation deck and teaching guide with activities. The lessons provide insight into career possibilities while helping educators meet Arizona Education Standards. Lessons are created with middle school students in mind, but may also be appropriate for older elementary school and some high school students.

The CISA Sparks library of lessons is growing. To help us create future lessons, we encourage educators to provide their feedback. Find a QR code to our survey on the lesson plans.

Thank you for joining us for CISA Sparks!

Creative Writing

This lesson introduces students to concepts in creative writing and careers where this skill is essential. Whether a book, a news post, or the description of your favorite candy, creative writing is everywhere! Activities encourage participants to invoke the five senses with their writing, as well as how to create a powerful first line.

The creative writing lesson is appropriate for students in grades 6–12. It was designed by Stacey Said, an English instructor in CISA’s School of Applied Sciences and Arts.
