Growing Gardens, Growing Minds Fellowship

Undergraduate eligibility and application requirements

Eligibility requirements

  • U.S. citizens or nationals with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the ASU Charter and advancing science.
  • Full-time ASU students majoring in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) or the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
  • Juniors in fall 2025, fall 2026, or fall 2027 (minimum 60 credit hours completed).
  • Passionate about urban sustainable systems, such as sustainable food, agriculture or natural resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring new perspectives to urban sustainable ecosystems
  • Enrolled in ABS 494 Foundations of Research during fall semester (Monday, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.) and CISA Emerging Professionals program. Remote options available for West Valley campus students only. 

Application requirements

Now accepting applications for the spring 2026 undergraduate fellowship cohort.

All undergraduate application materials must be submitted by Monday, March 23, 2026.

Required application documents

  • Personal statement (500-700 words)
  • Unofficial transcript with GPA
  • Resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • One letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your academic work such as a professor, instructor or advisor.

Letter of recommendation

The applicant must submit one letter of recommendation in order to be eligible for the Growing Gardens, Growing Minds Fellowship. The letter of recommendation should include:

  • How the recommender knows the applicant
  • An evaluation of the applicant’s potential in sustainable agriculture, food systems, urban ecosystems or natural resource management
  • A description of how the applicant contributes to ASU’s Charter
  • How the candidate would bring new perspectives to urban sustainable ecosystems.
