Requirements

Description
The wildlife management concentration is designed for students interested in biology, conservation, sustainability and management of wildlife resources. The concentration provides students with professional credentials to qualify for many positions offered by the state (e.g. Arizona Game and Fish Department) and federal agencies (e.g., US Forest Service, US Geological Survey, US Bureau of Land Management). The concentration will provide students with application-based and hands-on experience in the field and allow them to engage with wildlife professionals.

Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 22 credit hours including 12 upper division hours for this concentration.
At least 9 hours must be upper-division courses offered by the Applied Biological Sciences program and selected with the approval of an advisor.
Students are required to complete BIO 181 and BIO 182 OR BIO 281 and BIO 282 prior to enrollment in concentration courses.

ABS 472: Applied Herpetology (3)
ABS 473: Applied Ornithology (3)
ABS 475: Habitat Management for Small Wildlife (3)
ABS 476: Large Mammal Habitat Ecology (3)
ABS 485: GIS in Natural Resources (3)
ABS 486: Introduction to Remote Sensing (4)
ABS 489: Undergraduate Research (3)

Prerequisite courses may be needed in order to complete the requirements of this certificate.

IDS Core Course Information

All Interdisciplinary Studies students are required to complete a 9 credit-hour core and 9 credit hours of context/application courses.

Required Courses (9 credit hours):

IDS 201 Intellectual Fusion (recommended for freshman/sophomore students)
- Prerequisites: None

IDS 301 Becoming Interdisciplinary (3) (recommended for transfer students and/or students declaring IDS in their junior or senior year)
- Prerequisites: Interdisciplinary Studies major
IDS 302 Integration Skills (3)
- Prerequisite(s): Interdisciplinary Studies major; IDS 201 or 301 with C or better
IDS 401 Integration: Experiential Learning (3) (requires application)
- Prerequisites: IDS 201 or 301 with C or better; IDS 302 with C or better; minimum 2.00 GPA; minimum of two courses completed in each concentration area

Context courses (6 credit hours)
