Requirements


Description
Students pursuing a concentration in German gain an understanding of the language, literature, and cultures of German speaking peoples and regions. There are opportunities to partake in study abroad programs, which can serve to enhance a student's experience and education.

Requirements 

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 15 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Course substitutions are allowed for heritage and advanced speakers of the language; consult an advisor in the School of International Letters and Cultures for details.

 

GER 200-Level Coursework - 3 credit hours
Note: Three credit hours of 200-level coursework will be applied to the minor and any additional credit hours earned will be applied toward university elective hours.

GER 201 Intermediate German I (4) G (Prerequisite(s): GER 102, 110, or 111 with C or better OR German Placement Test score of 329-443 OR Visiting University Student)

GER 202 Intermediate German (4) (Prerequisites: GER 201 with C or better)

GER 210 Intensive German, G (6-8) (Prerequisite(s): GER 102 or 111 with B or better OR GER 110 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only GER 201 or GER 202 or GER 210)

Required Course - 3 credit hours

GER 312 Readings in German Culture, G (3) (Prerequisite(s): GER 202 or 210 with C or better)

GER Electives - 6 credit hours 
Choose two courses from options below:

GER 310: Advanced German Grammar and Composition I, G (3) (Prerequisite(s): GER 202 or 210 with C or better OR German Placement Test score of 548 and above)

GER 311: German Conversation, G (3) (Prerequisite(s): GER 202 or 210 with C or better OR German Placement Test score of 548 and above)

GER 313: Advanced German Grammar and Composition II, G (3) (Prerequisite(s): GER 310 with C or better)

GER 319: Business German, G (3) (Prerequisite(s): GER 202 or 210 with C or better)

GER Upper Division Electives - 6 credit hours

Any GER 300 or 400 level course
