Requirements
Description
The concentration in environmental education is for traditional and nontraditional educators and is designed to establish standards for professional excellence in environmental education. Environmental education is taught in traditional classrooms and as community programs such as those at nature centers, museums, parks and zoos. The course work required in the concentration increases the environmental literacy of future educators, fosters community leadership strategies, and provides practice in environmental education teaching methods.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.

SCN 201 OR 301 Ecology and Natural History of the Sonoran Desert (3)
SCN 207 OR 307 Learning from Nature: Biomimicry and STEM (3) (Prerequisite(s): minimum 45 hours; Credit is allowed for only SCN 307 or SCN 494 (Learning from Nature: Biomimicry & STEM))
SCN 208 OR 308 Urban Environmental Education (3) (Prerequisite(s): minimum 45 hours)
SCN 300 Foundations of Environmental Education (3)
SCN 302 Outdoor Education (3) OR SCN 308 Urban Environmental Education (3)
SCN 310 Biodiversity Conservation: An Educational Inquiry (4) (Prerequisite(s): minimum 45 hours; Credit is allowed for only SCN 310 or SCN 294 (Biodiversity Conservation) or SCN 494 (Biodiversity Conservation))
