Our history and expertise
Established in 1956, the ASU Counselor Training Center serves as the community counseling and training clinic for the School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology, part of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. The center advances three core goals:
- Preparing the next generation of skilled counselors and counseling psychologists
- Providing affordable and confidential counseling services to ASU students, faculty, staff, and the broader community
- Supporting use-inspired research that addresses real-world needs.
The Counselor Training Center is an essential part of the school’s graduate education and clinical training. Advanced graduate students apply the knowledge and skills developed through their coursework, while receiving guidance and supervision from experienced licensed clinical faculty. This hands-on learning environment helps prepare future mental health professionals and scholars to provide ethical, evidence-based, culturally informed, and strengths-based care.
The School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology is recognized among the nation’s leading graduate programs. Its internationally respected faculty integrate innovative research, professional best practices, and practical experience to advance the well-being of individuals and communities. The school is also home to one of the country’s oldest nationally accredited doctoral programs and Arizona’s only master’s program accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council.
