Engineering Management

Description
The concentration in engineering management is designed to provide the student with skills for effective management and leadership of engineering-driven enterprises. The curriculum supplements other BIS concentrations by adding to the breadth of engineering science and design, and equips the student with additional management and design skills. This knowledge is augmented with an understanding of business practices, organizational behavior and management skills to enable the graduate to succeed in the management of a scientific or engineering enterprise. Topics such as project and resource management, financial engineering, risk management, configuration management, service plans, product liability, entrepreneurship and operations management are covered, in addition to product design and process development.

Requirements

  • Students must have completed MAT 265 (270) and MAT 266 (271) (or an equivalent calculus sequence) with a grade of "C" or better in each before they will be allowed to declare this concentration.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • To enhance the understanding of the subject matter, the selected courses are sequential in nature and require certain prerequisites. Consequently, students should carefully note the semester in which any of these courses are offered.
  • Students wishing to add the concentration in Engineering Management must consult with (or may choose to consult with) an academic advisor in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering in order to create a cohesive and comprehensive program of study. 
  • IEE 220 is not offered online, IEE 380 may be taken in place of IEE 220.

IEE 380 Probability and Statistics for Engineering Problem Solving, CS (3) may be taken in place of IEE 220.

IEE 300 Economic Analysis for Engineers

IEE 431 Engineering Administration (Credit is allowed for only IEE 431 or 541)

IEE 458 Project Management (Prerequisite: ECN 221 or IEE 380 with C or better)

OR

CEE 481 Civil Engineering Project Management (3)

IEE 381 Lean Six Sigma Methodology (Prerequisite: IEE 380 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only IEE 381, 498 (Six Sigma Methodology) or 498 (Six Sigma Green Belt)) (offered spring only)

IEE 412 Introduction to Financial Engineering

IEE 454 Risk Management (Prerequisites: ECN 221 or IEE 380 with C or better; junior or senior student) (offered fall only)

IEE 456 Introduction to Systems Engineering (Credit is allowed for only IEE 456 or 556) (offered spring only)

IEE 474 Quality Control IEE 498 Analysis of Decision Processes (Prerequisite: IEE 380 with C or better)

IDS Core Course Information

All Interdisciplinary Studies students are required to complete a 9 credit-hour core and 9 credit hours of context/application courses.

Required Courses (9 credit hours):

  • IDS 201 Intellectual Fusion (recommended for freshman/sophomore students)
    • Prerequisites: None

OR

  • IDS 301 Becoming Interdisciplinary (3) (recommended for transfer students and/or students declaring IDS in their junior or senior year)
    • Prerequisites: Interdisciplinary Studies major

  • IDS 302 Integration Skills (3)
    • Prerequisite(s): Interdisciplinary Studies major; IDS 201 or 301 with C or better
  • IDS 401 Integration: Experiential Learning (3) (requires application)
    • Prerequisites: IDS 201 or 301 with C or better; IDS 302 with C or better; minimum 2.00 GPA; minimum of two courses completed in each concentration area
