Meet Katie Wafer Gillberg: ’10 Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (business and communication)

In 2010, Katie Wafer Gillberg graduated magna cum laude with a BIS degree in business and communication from the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA). She left ASU with a set of valuable skills, a new job in advertising and high hopes for her future.

“At my ASU graduation ceremony, I knew I was destined to make an impact, but launching a successful, national wellness company was beyond my dreams,” she says.

Wafer Gillberg’s wellness company Hydrate IV Bar, which offers IV therapy in a spa-like atmosphere, has grown to nearly 30 locations in various states since 2020, with plans to continue scaling nationwide.

When asked what she took away from her CISA education, she said, “Whether it's public speaking, negotiating, leading teams, managing operations or marketing, I apply these skills almost daily.”

As an entrepreneur, Wafer Gillberg looks forward to growing her business, but also giving back to CISA.

She says, “I value my educational journey and am committed to supporting future generations in their pursuit of learning and growth.”

Q: What was your favorite memory from your time as an ASU student?
A: During my time at ASU, I had the honor of serving as both a member and captain of the ASU Dance Team. Two of my favorite memories include cheering at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego, and the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament in Miami, alongside James Harden.

Q: Did you take on any leadership roles during your time as an ASU student?
A: Yes! President of ASU’s Delta Gamma sorority and captain of the ASU Dance Team.

Q: What was your first job out of college?
A: I began my career as an account executive at Comcast Spotlight, where I sold advertising, before transitioning into medical sales — a path that ultimately led me to founding Hydrate IV Bar.

Q: How did you come up with the concept for Hydrate IV Bar?
A: I saw an opportunity to build a wellness brand centered on preventive medicine and a membership-based model. I’m passionate about disrupting the industry and crafting a client experience that’s truly unique and memorable.

Q: What does the future hold for you?
A: Our team is scaling Hydrate IV Bar nationwide to 100+ units in the next three to five years. We are also considering offering additional complementary medical services within the wellness space. As I continue to grow my business, I'm also growing my family and feel incredibly grateful for my supportive husband and our two wonderful children.

Q: What advice do you have for students who are considering entrepreneurship?
A: If you believe in yourself and have an idea that keeps you up at night, then do it!
