Requirements

Description

Improve the lives of our aging population and others. Develop skills and competencies in providing necessary care, and expand your opportunities for employment upon graduation.

The concentration in hospice and palliative care provides future health and health care workers with the skills they need to lead and manage chronic and end-of-life care in a variety of settings, including home health care.

Students learn from interprofessional instructors who are involved in hospice and palliative care as physicians, social workers, nurses and bereavement counselors --- professionals who work with children and adults, as well as palliative care and hospice patients.

Through this program, students:

  • complete an internship at Hospice of the Valley, where they can help address the nonclinical care needs of patients and their families
  • have the opportunity to shadow health professionals and learn about their roles through field experience
  • learn through evidence-based research and the most advanced technology in hospice and palliative care
  • explore how contemporary issues are burdening the health care system under its current structure
  • receive specialized instruction on dementia and Alzheimer's disease
  •
