Health Education Specialist
Requirements
Description
The health education specialist concentration prepares health education and health promotion professionals to fill a critical role as they teach individuals how to stay well by living healthy lifestyles. They also help mobilize communities to advocate for and create healthy environments, and they champion health equity through policy, advocacy and environmental change.
In this concentration, students learn how to plan, implement, manage and evaluate health promotion programs that improve health outcomes and prevent chronic and infectious disease.
This concentration does not meet the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) requirements, and thus does not qualify a student to apply for a Dietetic Internship.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 25 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of āCā (2.00) or higher.
- In order to receive the certificate, students must complete their bachelor's degree at ASU along with all certificate requirements.
- Incompatible concentrations: Wellness Foundations, Nutrition and Healthy Living, Food and Nutrition Management, Human Nutrition
- Prerequisite courses may be required in order to complete the requirements of this concentration.
