 Description
The Latin classical studies program at ASU offers students a wide variety of opportunities to study the language, literature, and culture of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum of 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Language - 6-8 credit hours

LAT 101 Elementary Latin (4)

LAT 102 Elementary Latin (4) (Prerequisites: LAT 101)

LAT 201 Intermediate Latin I, HU (4) (Prerequisites: LAT 102)

LAT 202 Intermediate Latin II, HU (4) (Prerequisites: LAT 201)

LAT 421 Roman Literature, HU (3) (Prerequisites: LAT 202)

Electives 12 hours
Choose elective courses from the following: 

SLC 344 / LAT 344 / GRK 344: Classics and Comics (HU) (3)

SLC 351 / GRK 351: Tales of Troy (HU & H) (3)

SLC 352 / GRK 352: The Rise and Fall of Ancient Athens (HU & H) (3)

SLC 353 / GRK 353: Alexander and His Empires (HU & H) (3)

SLC 356 / LAT 356: Rome from Village to Empire (3)

SLC 357 / LAT 357: Rome's First Emperor (HU & H) (3)

SLC 360 / LAT 360 / GRK 360 / HST 397: Greece and Rome at War (3)

SLC 361 / LAT 361 / REL 361: Roman Religion (HU) (3)

SLC 362 / GRK 362 / REL 360: Ancient Greek Religion (HU) (3)

SLC 363 / LAT 363 / GRK 363: Ancient Magic and Witchcraft (3)

IDS Core Course Information

All Interdisciplinary Studies students are required to complete a 9 credit-hour core and 9 credit hours of context/application courses.

Required Courses (9 credit hours):

  • IDS 201 Intellectual Fusion (recommended for freshman/sophomore students)
    • Prerequisites: None

          OR

  • IDS 301 Becoming Interdisciplinary (3) (recommended for transfer students and/or students declaring IDS in their junior or senior year)
    • Prerequisites: Interdisciplinary Studies major
       
  • IDS 302 Integration Skills (3)
    • Prerequisite(s): Interdisciplinary Studies major; IDS 201 or 301 with C or better
  • IDS 401 Integration: Experiential Learning (3) (requires application)
    • Prerequisites: IDS 201 or 301 with C or better; IDS 302 with C or better; minimum 2.00 GPA; minimum of two courses completed in each concentration area
       

Context courses (6 credit hours)

Choose two Integrative Context courses from the following (3 credit hours each):
