Applied Science (Animal Biology), BAS

The Bachelor of Applied Science with a concentration in Animal Biology provides a direct pathway from an Associate of Applied Science degree to a Bachelor of Applied Science degree for students who want to prepare for careers in management, scientific, and medical fields relevant to animals. You will learn the underlying principles of animal health — grounded in knowledge of cells, biological systems, and behavior — in order to solve problems in animal health and care. You will have access to a variety of career resources and opportunities to explore professions and engage with established professionals in a variety of fields.

 

The concentration curriculum emphasizes a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, animal science and mathematics while offering specialized courses and opportunities for placement in internships in the field.

Counseling and Applied Psychological Science (Substance Abuse and Addictions), BS

There is increasing demand for mental health professionals trained in addictions. This concentration prepares students to care for and help individuals who struggle with substance abuse, addictions and related disorders.

The Counseling and Applied Psychological Science BS with a concentration in Substance Abuse and Addictions is an approved program under the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE), which provides a pathway to licensure as Licensed Substance Abuse Technician (LSAT) in Arizona. The approval expiration date is September 11, 2025.

Military Studies, AA

The AA in military studies is designed for a partnership with the U.S. Naval Community College to provide training to enlisted personnel sailors, marines and coast guards. The degree is a rigorous program that provides a comprehensive foundation of study in the history of war and warfare, history of regions identified in the National Defense Strategy, the U.S. foreign policymaking process, international relations theories, and U.S. political and military systems. Through the interdisciplinary curriculum, students gain the tools to use historical analysis, demonstrate critical thinking, and develop strong written and verbal communication skills. The program includes capstone research or an applied project in which students explore the role of the U.S. Navy in advancing the goals of the nation in the past, present or future.

Technical Communication (Data Visualization), BS

The data visualization concentration in the BS program in technical communication prepares students for the innovative work of collecting, processing and visualizing data in clear, accurate and dynamic ways to a range of audiences.

Students learn how to structure, model, clean and correlate data. They learn myriad types of data visualizations, how to develop and refine visualizations using a range of software, how to read and develop analytics dashboards, and how to communicate data-driven recommendations and findings. Students gain experience visualizing proportions, patterns over time, complex relationships, and spatial data through graphics. Lastly, they also learn about data visualization ethics, including how to spot misleading graphs and how to ensure the production of responsible and accurate visualizations.
