Requirements


Description
Students pursuing a concentration in Spanish gain an understanding of the language, literature, and cultures of Spanish speaking peoples and regions. There are opportunities to partake in study abroad programs, which can serve to enhance a student's experience and education.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 upper division credit hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum of 6 upper division hours must be taken in courses offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Pass/Fail courses cannot be used for this concentration.
  • SPA 311 & SPA 312 do not count towards the concentration in any catalog year.
  • Placement testing required for students with no prior Spanish credit.
    • See information about Language Placement Testing or consult with an academic advisor in the School of International Letters and Cultures regarding placement into Spanish language classes. 
    • Students testing into higher Spanish language courses may need overrides to enroll.

Required Core 12+ Hours

SPA 202 Intermediate Spanish, G (4) OR SPA 204 Intermediate Spanish for Bilinguals, G (4) OR SPA 210 Intensive Spanich II, G (6-8)
     Note: If placement test places above the 200-level, an alternative SPA upper division elective must be taken in place of the lower division requirement

SPA 313 Spanish Conversation and Composition, G (3) OR SPA 315 Spanish Conversation and Composition for Bilinguals (3) (Prerequisites: SPA 202 with C or better; May not enroll in SPA 313 if credit received in SPA 314, 315, 316, 325 or 412)

SPA 314 Spanish Conversation and Composition, G (3) OR SPA 316 Spanish Conversation and Composition for Bilinguals (3) (Prerequisite(s): SPA 313 or 315 with C or better; Students may not enroll in SPA 314 if they have received a C or better in SPA 412)

SPA 412 Advanced Conversation and Composition, G (3) (Prerequisites: SPA 314 or SPA 316 or SPA 413 with C or better)

Spanish Language Studies Track Options - Select 9 Hours from one track
In addition to 12 credit hours in required courses, students complete nine credit hours from one of three tracks provided to permit specialization in ways beneficial to their personal or academic goals:
