Security Studies

Description

More than half the world's population live in countries like the United States, where private security personnel outnumber law enforcement officers. This program teaches skills important to the field of private security, both corporate and other forms.

The security studies concentration provides students with the skills and credentials necessary for expanding their employment opportunities in corporate and public security.

Through the 24 credit hour curriculum, students receive extended education in transdisciplinary topics such as accounting, computer studies, information systems, and crime analysis; part of the curriculum consists of advanced crime and law courses.

Upon completion of this concentration, students are well equipped to have fluid conversations with professionals from different backgrounds about security, whether corporate or private.

Requirements

• Students must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
• All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
• Except for CRJ 201 and CRJ 419, a course may not be used to fulfill requirements in both the Homeland Security and Security Studies IDS concentration areas.
• Students also pursuing CRJ degree may "not" use upper division CRJ courses towards both degree and certificate requirements Those in the concentration cannot do the SCS certificate.
