Requirements


Description
Students can expand their horizons and opportunities by learning about the global economy. The concentration is designed to develop competence in a foreign language; develop sensitivity to foreign cultures; provide an awareness of global social processes; and provide an understanding of international business environments, principles and operations.  The W. P. Carey School of Business has partnerships with universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America, so students can experience new cultures, visit new places and build intercultural and language skills. International internships also are offered in conjunction with the ASU Study Abroad Office.  All students are required to meet with an advisor in International Business before this concentration can be officially added to their plan of study and DARS.

 Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in order to declare this concentration and no grade lower than C in courses applied toward the concentration area.
  • Students must maintain an overall concentration GPA of at least 2.50.
  • Courses not guaranteed to be offered during summer sessions.
  • Students that have taken some additional math and economics courses, such as ECN 211, ECN 212, MAT 210 and MAT 211, may be eligible to take 300-level Economics courses such as ECN 306, ECN 331, ECN 335, or ECN 360.  Consult an International Business advisor for details.
  • All business course work must be completed through the W. P. Carey School of Business or through an approved ASU international study program.
  • Students must meet all course prerequisites and requirements as listed in the ASU catalog.
  • Concentration requirements must be completed within one year of graduation date.

MGT 302 Principles of International Business (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 GPA & min 56 hours); ECN 212 or 214 with C or better; Credit is allowed for only AGB 302 or MGT 302 or BUA 394 Perspectives in Global Business)

ECN 306 Survey of International Economics (3)*

FIN 456 International Financial Management (3) (Prerequisites: W.P.Carey Finance BS student; ACC 315 or ACC 303 or ACC 340, FIN 331 and FIN 361; Honors student in Finance: FIN 303 and FIN 331; All courses must be completed with a grade of C or greater.)

MGT 400 Cross-Cultural Management (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 ASU cum GPA & min 56 earned hours; MGT 300 or 303 or 320 or MGT 380 with C or better.)

MGT 425 Global Human Resources (3) (Prerequisites: MGT 420 with C or better.)

MGT 459 International Management (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 ASU cum GPA & min 56 earned hours; MGT 302 or ECN 306 with a grade of C or better.)

MKT 425 Global Marketing Management (3) (Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.50 ASU cum GPA and minimum 2.50 ASU business GPA and 56 earned hours; MKT 300 or 302 or 303 with C or better)

SCM 463 Global Supply Chain Management (3) (Prerequisites: W.P. Carey BS or BA student; Must have completed SCM 300 or SCM 303 with C or better)

  • MGT 302 Principles of International Business (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 GPA & min 56 hours); ECN 212 or 214 with C or better.)

Prerequisite for MGT 459

  • MGT 380 Management Strategy for Non-Majors (Prerequisites: 2.5 GPA & 56 earned hours)

 Term 3

  • MGT 400 Cross-Cultural Management (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 ASU cum GPA & min 56 earned hours; MGT 300 or 303 or 320 or MGT 380 with C or better.)
  • MGT 459 International Management (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.5 ASU cum GPA & min 56 earned hours; MGT 302 or ECN 306 with a grade of C or better.) 

ASU Global and Area Studies 9 Hours Required

These hours may be satisfied by any combination of the following:

Choose 3 courses from the International Business Area Studies lists (below) and/or the University General Studies Global Awareness list.

Requirement may be waived by an official exchange program. See International Business Program Coordinator for details.

Recommended: It is recommended to choose courses related to the area of study abroad experience.

Additional courses may be approved by the international program coordinator.

Any university designated non-business global awareness (“G”) courses. 

Non-business global awareness hours may also be satisfied by:

  • An ASU or W.P. Carey School of Business education abroad program for one semester fulfills all nine hours of non-business global requirements.
  • An ASU or W.P. Carey School of Business program earning six credit hours fulfills six of the hours of non-business global requirements.
  • An ASU or W.P. Carey School of Business program earning three credit hours fulfills three of the hours of non-business global requirements.

 Foreign Language Proficiency

The concentration requires the equivalent of one year of college-level study of a foreign language. Foreign language proficiency is met in one of the following ways:

  • Completion of one year (two semesters) of the same foreign language at the college level.
  • Completion of one semester of the equivalent of 101 & 102 level course work.
  • Completion of two years of the same foreign language in high school with a minimum grade of “C” (2.00).
  • Documentation of a proficiency test confirming preparedness to start at least the second year of a foreign language (201 level or above).
  • A student whose first language is not English may have this requirement waived.

 International Business GPA 2.50 required

Students must achieve an overall GPA of 2.50 in the concentration.

 Study Abroad Experience Required

Participation in an ASU-approved international study abroad program is required.
