Tempe Writing, Cover Design Contest
The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts partners with Tempe Public Library to host the annual Tempe Community Writing Contest and Cover Design Contest. [read more in this ASU Now story about the 2016 contest]
Writers may submit a selection of their work, choosing from the genre of poetry, fiction or nonfiction (e.g. essay, memoir, literary journalism/creative non-fiction). Designers may submit one graphic design for the color cover of the resulting publication.
The competition is open to all ASU students enrolled at an on-ground campus, Tempe high school students, Tempe adult residents, and Tempe Library cardholders (ASU faculty and staff are not eligible).
Entries for the annual contest are accepted online between in January and February.
Submissions are judged anonymously within three categories: high school student, college student (undergraduate or graduate), and community adult. One winner from each entry category is chosen for each genre.
The Tempe Community Writing Contest winners are celebrated at a community reception at the Tempe Public Library, where they are invited to read from their work. Winning entries are also published in "The Tempe Writer's Forum" and on the library’s website.
Additional information and contest details, including design specifications and submission guidelines, can be found at the City of Tempe website.
