Team Leadership
Teams are essential to the success of any organization. By effectively collaborating, team members work towards shared purpose, goals, and success. Courses in the Organizational Leadership degree use an interdisciplinary approach to develop your understanding of social processes to enhance people’s interactions and effectiveness across a variety of organizational contexts.
Graduates from our program will be able to:
1) Connect key concepts associated with team design, identity, and development with individual team-based experience.
2) Describe aspects of verbal and nonverbal communication and their implications on team mental models, performance, and organizational culture.
3) Design and implement ways to increase trust and improve group decision-making processes.
4) Contrast different types of conflict on teams and develop interventions for various team conflict situations.
5) Demonstrate capacity to provide clear direction while allowing team members the freedom to self-organize their time and work.
Organizational Skills
You will develop the ability to set strategic shared goals while motivating individuals to align and advance vision, mission, task, and performance. You will understand operating contexts and organizational structures.
Personal Mastery
You will learn to think critically, solve problems, lead effectively, and generate new, creative options. You will be able to make better decisions and understand your values, sense of purpose, and leadership strengths, aspirations, and growth opportunities. OGL courses enable students to develop and apply leadership skills and strategies for their personal growth to serve and advance society.
Human Development
Human connectedness is vital to effective leadership. Nurturing and strengthening relationships requires the ability to connect authentically with people we interact with and lead. By making meaningful human connections, leaders create a deeper sense of belonging, trust, and mutual commitment to achieve shared goals.
Ethical Leadership
Ethical leadership enables leaders to make wise decisions. OGL courses will develop your capacity to analyze and apply ethical theories to various types of organizations (e.g., for-profit, non-profit, public, networks, etc.) and a variety of ethical situations within those organizations. Leaders understand the importance of producing reasoned justification and sound arguments for the moral positions they hold. They hold themselves accountable to their stakeholders.
Integrative Thinking
You will learn to examine issues from multiple perspectives, understand and align diverse interests and viewpoints, create a shared sense of purpose, ensure mutual accountability, and decipher underlying structures, assumptions, power dynamics, and interdependencies of events and patterns. This integrative capacity will enable you to navigate successfully in complex environments at the family, organizational, community, and global levels.
