Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an effective communication technique to help students evaluate their own behaviors and strengthen their motivation for and commitment to change.

Join Brenda Young, health educator on alcohol and other drugs from ASU Health Services' Wellness department, in this discussion about how MI strategies can be applied when giving assignment feedback (especially journals) and in one-on-one discussions with students. Some working knowledge of MI techniques and the stages of change are recommended to gain optimal value from this workshop (e.g. watch “Evoke Change with Motivational Interviewing” from the Fall 2018 Progressive Pedagogy Workshop Series).
