Biography

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael Feyrer has lived in Phoenix since 1996. Following a broad range of professional experience, from corporate sales and law enforcement to photojournalism and entrepreneurial artist, he enrolled at Arizona State University, finding an academic home in interdisciplinary studies.  

As a non-traditional adult student, Feyrer earned a Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS), and was named the Graduate of the Year for the Arizona State University College of Letters and Sciences. Concurrently, he received the Leanor Boulin Johnson Award for African and African American Studies from the ASU School of Social Transformation. 

Feyrer earned a Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) from the Arizona State University New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Recently, he has been an instructor of IDS core courses, and Organizational Leadership courses focusing on diversity, social processes and ethics. He has also taught and assisted with film and media studies classes, and has been an instructor to refeugees from all over the world who were resettled in Phoenix.

Feyrer brings extensive professional and contemporary academic experience, outside-the-box thinking, and open-minded enthusiasm to his courses. He understands the challenges inherent in higher ed, and supports the unique ideas, diverse goals and unlimited potential of students. Former students describe him as accessible, enthusiastic and committed to their success.

Honors/Awards

Michael earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS), with concentrations and certification in African and African American Studies, and Human Rights, and was named the Outstanding Graduate from the Arizona State University College of Letters and Sciences. Michael was also the recipient of the Leanor Boulin-Johnson Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in African and African American Studies from the Arizona State University School of Social Transformation. Presented concurrently from two different ASU schools, these awards underscored Michael's interdisciplinary achievement.

Work History

As an interdisciplinary artist, Michael's photography and multimedia work has been exhibited in a variety of venues, including as featured artist for the 2011 and 2012 "Valley of the Sun Juneteenth Day Festival". His freelance journalism has appeared in newspapers and other publications.

Along with academic success, his vast experience in interdisciplinarity and transdisiplinarity is gleaned from decades of success while working in private enterprise, public service, and entrepeneurial development; in sales account management, newspaper reporting and circulation, internet technology, photography, multi-media art and vidoegraphy, refugee resettlement, and law enforcement.
