What Is Forensic Linguistics?

Please join us for the inaugural talk in our Linguistics: Where Science and Humanities Meet lecture series, on Forensic Linguistics!
Speaker: Regents' Professor Elly van Gelderen, Interdisciplinary Linguistics, Department of English
What can you tell about somebody by the way they speak and write? What subtle clues do you give to people you speak and write with? Did you notice that many forensics and detective shows have a linguist on their team? This interactive session will provide information on what forensic linguists do and give a hands-on introduction to a variety of techniques to determine authorship. The event is free and open to the public.
*Please bring a laptop if you can. Participants will work in pairs or small groups to analyze data.
Light refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact amy shinabarger: amyds@asu.edu
