Computational Materials Research and Applications in Nano-Electronics and Renewable Energies

ASU's Xihong Peng, associate professor of physics in the Sciences and Mathematics faculty of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, at ASU's Polytechnic campus, is part of a research group that performs first-principles elecronic structure calculations to explore novel materials, gain a fundamental understanding or their properties at the atomic level, and seek out possibilities for their potential application in nanoelectronics and renewable energies.

"In this talk I will provide an overview of my recent research into two nano-materials: phosphorene and Si clathrates," said Peng. "Phosphorene, a recently fabricated two-dimensional puckered honeycomb structure of phosphorus, showed promising properties for applications in nano-electronics. The project on Si clathrate holds promise in the development of environmentally clean, safe processes to expand our energy infrastructure."

All sessions in the Science and Mathematics Colloquium Series, organized and funded by the faculty of Science and Mathematics in ASU's College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, are free and open to the public. The series invites speakers who share their current pursuits in research and education in the areas of biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
