Requirements


Description
The concentration in women and gender studies provides students with an intensive interdisciplinary liberal arts education that enables them to write well, think critically and analyze problems effectively. Students take a variety of courses, including a capstone seminar requiring original research and writing and an internship that helps them prepare for life after college. Original undergraduate research is encouraged, and some courses involve students in studying community problems and formulating policy solutions.

Requirements

  • Student must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours for this concentration including 12 hours of upper division hours.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A maximum of three courses may be taken under any one prefix – excluding WST/WSH prefixes.
  • 12 elective hours of approved Women and Gender Studies courses must be taken after consultation with the Women and Gender Studies advisor.
  • Students pursuing this concentration are encouraged to meet with the Women and Gender Studies advisor early in their course of studies.

WST 100 Women and Society, SB & C (3) (Credit is allowed for only WST 100 or WST 300)

OR

WST 300 Women in Contemporary Society (3) (Prerequisite: 30 minimum hours; credit is allowed for only WST 300 or WST 100)

WST 377 History of American Feminist Thought, H & C (3) (Prerequisite: 30 minimum hours)

WST 378 Global Feminist Theory, L & C & G (3) (Prerequisites: WST 100 or 300 with C or better; Minimum 30 hours)

WST 380 Gender, Race and Class, SB & C (3) (Prerequisites: WST 100 or 300 with C or better; Minimum 6 upper-division hours; Credit is allowed for only WST 350 or 380)
