Requirements


Description
The architectural studies concentration is designed to provide the student with an overview of architecture throughout history while focusing on architectural design, with the intention to explore the process of architectural thinking.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required to complete this concentration.
  • To enhance understanding of the subject matter, some of the designated courses are sequential in nature and require certain prerequisites. Consequently, students should carefully note the semester in which these particular courses are offered. All designated courses for the concentration in design studies are lecture courses.

ALA 235: Introduction to Computer Modeling (CS) (3)

ATE 242: Introduction to Architectural Technology (3) (NOTE: Instructor Consent Required)

Architectural History and Theory 12 hours

ANP 494 Special Topics (1-3)

APH 305 OR 405 Contemporary Architecture, HU & H (3)

APH 313 (offered fall only)/213 History of Architecture I, (L or HU) & G & H (3) ( Prerequisites: ALA 100 or ALA 102 and junior standing)

APH 314 (offered spring only)/214 History of Architecture II, (L or HU) & G & H (3) (Prerequisites: APH 313 with C or better)

APH 394 Special Topics (3)

APH 414 History of the City, (L or HU) & H (3) (Prerequisites: PUP 301; Minimum 45 hours; Credit is allowed for only APH 414, MUD 598 (History of the City) or PUP 412)
