Description
The concentration in early childhood education will allow students to combine their knowledge with other concentrations to understand educational practices and issues. The ultimate goal of this concentration is to produce graduates who are educated in their major field of study and who understand and appreciate education which will positively impact the community. The service learning experience embedded in this concentration will enable students to apply their knowledge and skills to meaningful service experience in the community.

Requirements

  • Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours including 12 of upper division hours for this concentration.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.

ECS 310: Foundations in Typical / Atypical Child Development (3) (Prerequisite(s): Minimum junior standing)

ECS 312 Social and Emotional Development of the Young Child, SB (3) (Prerequisite(s): Minimum junior standing)

ECS 431 Family, community and Professional Support Systems (3) (Prerequisite(s): admission to Professional Teacher Preparation Program or enrolled in Educational Studies program or enrolled in Early Childhood minor)

EDP 310 Three one hour electives in Educational Psychology for Non-Teachers, SB (3) 

TEL 215 Introduction to Child and Adolescent Development (SB) (3) 

USL 410 Service Learning (L & C) (3)
