Requirements


Description
The concentration in recreation management introduces students to community recreation programming and planning for a variety of populations. Students from such various disciplines including business, education, nursing, public affairs, social work, and many others might find this program a beneficial supplement to their existing program.

Requirements

  • A total of 18 credit hours must be completed to finish the concentration area, including 12 upper division hours.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
  • Must be a junior to take 400-level course.
  • PRM 304 is only offered in fall sessions.
  • PRM 401 is only offered in spring sessions.

Core 6 Hours
Choose core courses from the following:

PRM 120 Leisure and Quality of Life, SB (3) (Required)

PRM 303 Program Planning, L (3) (Prerequisites: NLM 160 or PRM 120 with C or better; MAT 142 with C or better ; ENG 102, 105, or 108 with C or better; 2.5 GPA)

PRM 304 Recreation Planning and Facility Development (3) (Prerequisites: Min 2.50 cum GPA; min 45 hours; MAT 142 or better; PRM 210 (or NLM 210, TDM 210) with C or better) (offered in fall session only)

PRM 401 Management of Parks and Recreation Services (3) (Prerequisites: MAT 142 or higher with D or better; 2.50 cum GPA or higher; 45 hours or more; ENG 102 and PRM 304 with C or better) (offered in spring session only)

Electives 12 Hours Required
Choose elective courses from the following:

NLM 310 Volunteer Management (3)

CRD 210 Community Services and Professions (3) (Prerequisite: NLM 160 or PRM 120 pre-or co-requisite (with C or better if completed); Credit for NLM, TDM or PRM 210)

CRD 302 Inclusive Community Development, C (3) (Prerequisites: ENG 102; MAT 142; NLM 160 (or PRM 120) with a C or better; 2.50 GPA; 45 semester hours. Students who have credit for NLM 302 or TDM 302 may not enroll in TDM 302)

PRM 315 Community Recreation Systems (3) (Prerequisites: PRM120 (REC120) with a grade of C or greater)

PRM 364 Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, SB (3)

PRM 368 Sports Management (3)

PRM 370 Natural Resource Recreation Planning and Management (3) (Prerequisite: Must have 45 or more earned hours)

PRM 402 Assessment and Evaluation of Community Services (3) (Pre-or Co-requisites: TDM 401 or PRM 401 or NLM 410 with C or better. Students who have credit for PRM 402, or NLM 402, may not enroll in TDM 402)

PRM 451 Grant Writing (3) (Credit is allowed for only NLM 451, 565 or PRM 451)

PRM 475 / TDM 475 Entrepreneurial Recreation and Tourism (3) (Prerequisites: PRM 120 or REC 120with C or better)

PRM 486 Special Events Management (3)

PRM 470 Environmental Interpretation and Education (3)

PRM 487 Advanced Special Events Management (3) (Prerequisites: REC 486 or RTM 486 with C or better)
