Community Sports Management

Description
The community sports management concentration focuses on the role that amateur and recreational sports play in a community. Emphasis is on the role of sports across the life span provided through sports organizations and programs that also support community development.
Requirements
- Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours, including 12 hours of upper division courses.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher.
Core Courses
CSM 201 Introduction to Community Sports (3) Required
CSM 305 Survey of Sports Facility Design (3) Required (Prerequisites: CRD 210 (or NLM/PRM/TDM 210) with C or better; MAT 142 or higher; minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA; minimum 45 hours)
CSM 407 Ethics and Legal Issues in Sports Required (Prerequisites: CSM 201)
PRM 315 Community Recreation Systems (3) (Prerequisites: PRM120 (REC120) with C or better)
OR PRM 364 Foundations of Recreation Therapy, SB (3) (Prerequisites: Min 45 hours)
OR PRM 380 Wilderness and Parks in America, SB & H (3)
Electives
Other courses may be selected with approval from an advisor in the School of Community Resources and Development
Students must select six credits of electives from the following:
CSM 335 Sports and Recreation for Youth Development (Prerequisite: min 45 hours. Credit is allowed for only CSM 335 or PRM 335)
CSM 481 Sports Tourism (3)
CSM 485 Sports Events (3) (Prerequisite: minimum 45 hours. Credit is allowed for only CSM 485 or PRM 485)
NLM 220 Introduction to Nonprofit Management (3)
NLM 310 Volunteer Management (3) (Prerequisite: min 45 hours. Credit is allowed for only NLM or PRM 310)
PRM 364 Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, SB (3) (Prerequisites: Min 45 hours)
All Interdisciplinary students are required to complete a 12 credit hour core.
All core courses require:
- Two courses completed in each concentration area
- Activation of BIS eligibility student group by a BIS advisor
- One course meeting general studies MA requirement
- ENG 102 or ENG 105 or ENG 108 or First Year Composition Completed
- Minimum 2.00 GPA
